{"id":6792,"date":"2024-08-26T14:37:16","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T14:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newproductioninstitute.de\/?p=6792"},"modified":"2024-09-26T14:28:08","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T14:28:08","slug":"august-highlights-new-production-institutes-journey-to-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newproductioninstitute.de\/en\/august-highlights-new-production-institutes-journey-to-mexico","title":{"rendered":"August Highlights: New Production Institute&#8217;s Journey to Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>August has been a remarkable month for the New Production Institute as our team embarked on a journey to Mexico to participate in two significant events: the Fab Conference and the Fab City Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These events provided an exceptional opportunity for exchange and networking with like-minded individuals who share our Institute&#8217;s ideals and goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fab Conference: Fabricating Equity in Puebla<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/fab24.fabevent.org\/\">Fab Conference<\/a> &#8211; held at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iberopuebla.mx\/\">Ibero-American University<\/a> in Puebla from the 26<sup>th<\/sup> July to 9<sup>th<\/sup> August and organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/fabfoundation.org\/\">Fab Foundation<\/a> in collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/cba.mit.edu\">The Center for Bits and Atoms<\/a> (MIT) &#8211; kicked off with the Fab Challenge and the Fab Festival. This year&#8217;s theme, <em>Fabricating Equity<\/em>, resonated deeply with the principles of the dtec.bw project \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dtecbw.de\/home\/forschung\/hsu\/projekt-fabcity\/projekt-fabcity\">Fab City<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Highlights:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>3rd and 4th August:<\/strong> During the Fab Festival, our Fab Challenge participants, Juan Manuel Grados Luyando (<a href=\"https:\/\/challenge.fab.city\/greening-communities-bee-conservation-for-an-equitable-future\">Greening Communities: Bee conservation for equitable futures<\/a>) and Jan Peuckert (<a href=\"https:\/\/challenge.fab.city\/challenge-8\">Collaborate and Create: Innovative entrepreneurship to empower neighborhoods<\/a>), showcased their innovative solutions to local issues. Their hard work was recognized with certificates awarded in the shadow of the Santuario de la Virgen de los Remedios. Congratulations to them!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5th August:<\/strong> The opening session featured welcome speeches and an engaging cultural dance performance, setting a vibrant tone for the days ahead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>7th August:<\/strong> Juan Manuel Grados Luyando led a workshop titled <em>Microfactories: Revolutionizing Local Production for a Sustainable Tomorrow<\/em>. He emphasized the crucial role of microfactories and local production in advancing FabCity ideals, focusing on the integration of automation and resource monitoring to enhance efficiency and track product footprints.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>8th August:<\/strong> Gerrit R\u00fcdebusch facilitated the workshop <em>Mobile Labs United<\/em>, where participants were introduced to the concept of the OpenLab Mobile\u2014a mobile makerspace. The session sparked discussions among Mobile Lab managers and trainers about the future of these labs and the formation of a working group for further development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>9th August:<\/strong> Tobias Redlich, alongside Niels Boeing (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fabcity.hamburg\/\">Fab City Hamburg Association<\/a>), Tomas Diez (<a href=\"https:\/\/fab.city\">Fab City Global Initiative<\/a>), and Ekaterina Kormilitsyna (MIT Media Lab), participated in the Fab City Initiative Panel on <em>Fab City Technology and HR<\/em>. Organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/fab.city\/foundation-urban-innovation\/\">Fab City Foundation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.fabcityyucatan.org\/\">Fab City Yucatan<\/a>, with the support of the Center for Bits and Atoms and Fab Foundation, the event was not just about networking and reconnecting with familiar faces but also about contributing to meaningful discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key <strong>Highlights:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>12th August:<\/strong><sup> <\/sup>At Anahuac Mayab University, Jan Peuckert led the <em>Fab City Metrics Workshop: Approaches to Measuring Progress in Realizing the Fab City<\/em>. While we celebrated the progress made over the past decade, the event also served as a platform to plan the next steps toward our ultimate goal: enabling Fab Cities to produce (almost) everything they consume by 2054.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reflecting on the experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The New Production Institute is honored to have participated in such inspiring events, showcasing our progress with the dtec.bw project Fab City. Being part of this vibrant community of innovators reinforces our commitment to pushing the boundaries of decentralized, sustainable production.
