Digital teaching

Effective knowledge management in education

The project examines processes and structures that promote digital teaching and knowledge management in educational institutions. The aim is to develop sustainable digitization concepts that integrate existing knowledge and needs within organizations.

MOTIVATION

Support from digital educational elements in the training process should be a key part of any modern educational institution.
In order to develop sustainable concepts for digitization in educational organizations, stakeholders in educational institutions should be involved in an iterative process of conceptual development and practical integration of digital infrastructure into existing structures and processes.
This allows the institution’s existing knowledge and the existing needs within the socio-technical system to be captured and utilized.

Scientific focus areas

The scientific development of the basic principles of digital teaching, the blended learning approach, and integrated organizational development is based on theories, methods, and concepts from organizational theory, organizational sociology, and knowledge management.

The discussion and exchange of didactic scenarios and specific teaching elements offer significant added value for teachers, learners, and the entire educational institution.
Interorganizational cooperation among teachers intensifies knowledge management at a concrete level.
In addition, knowledge exchange with institutions surrounding the respective educational institution is strengthened.

Research

Key results

The New Production Institute supports communication and exchange on the digitization of teaching.
At the ILIAS Conference 2019 in Dresden, the project “Introduction of Blended Learning at the German Armed Forces Technical Schools” was presented in the lecture “Strategies for Digital Transformation Using ILIAS” and introduced into the technical discussion.

In particular, the experiences gained with regard to the scientific and systematic introduction of teaching staff, the scientifically supported development and implementation of blended learning teaching and learning scenarios, and the associated theoretically and conceptually prepared introduction of interorganizational knowledge management provided practical insight into the strategies of digital transformation.

The New Production Institute also emphasizes openness in its digital teaching projects, working with open-source software and, where possible, open educational resources (OER).
To implement the project, employees are collaborating with the e-learning coordination office at Helmut Schmidt University.
