Urban Digital Twins for the city of tomorrow
The co-modelling workshop for the digital twin of Fab City Hamburg took place at Fab City Haus at the end of June – organized by Rico Herzog (City Science Lab) and JC Mariscal (New Production Institute).
The aim: to develop and refine a digital simulation model of the city together with researchers, developers and practitioners – with the help of the Urban Model Builder.
🛠️ The Urban Model Builder is a web-based open source tool that was developed as part of the collaborative project “Connected Urban Twins – Urban Data Platforms and Digital Twins for Integrated Urban Development”. It enables the collaborative modeling of urban processes and the simulation of future scenarios – in a transparent, accessible and expandable way.
📊 Why is this important?
A digital twin can help cities like Hamburg to make better-informed decisions:
🟢 What impact would a new circular resource system have on local production?
🟢 How could the city develop if certain infrastructures were expanded or adapted?
🟢 What levers can we pull on the way to a circular city?
The participants worked hands-on with the tool, identified key simulation questions for Fab City Hamburg and tested new modeling processes.
A big thank you to Rico Herzog for hosting the session and the training and to Viktoria Probst for her support!
