ON THE ROAD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THE FUTURE: Successful Kick-off event of the OpenLab Mobile
Under the motto Digital Fabrication Everywhere, the partners of the OpenLab Mobile ceremoniously opened the mobile production makerspace for Hamburg and the metropolitan region – the OpenLab Mobile – on March 28, 2023. Together with the university president Prof. Dr. Klaus Beckmann, Prof. Dr. Jens P. Wulfsberg, Dr. Tobias Redlich and Dr. Jürgen Glaser, the truck was ceremoniously opened on the grounds of Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg.
The OpenLab Mobile is an innovative project that focuses on digital fabrication, the production of the future, while providing a platform for collaboration and exchange. In addition to Helmut Schmidt University, the partners of OpenLab Mobile include Süderelbe AG, The New Production Institute, Fab City Hamburg e.V. and, as a sponsor, dtec.bw – Center for Digitization and Technology Research of the German Armed Forces.
About the OpenLab Mobile
A 12.66 m long truck with a working area of 26 sqm, equipped with partly open source digital manufacturing machines, such as 3D printers, CNC milling machines or laser cutters, gives many people access to machines and knowledge. Under the motto “Digital Manufacturing Everywhere”, access to open source applications and digital production technology is thus to be made possible. Educational workshops are held here, prototypes, spare parts and other products are manufactured digitally, and innovation projects are initiated and supported. These workshop offerings will also be available in rural areas and are aimed in particular at school and university educational institutions as well as private individuals, established companies, start-ups, and training companies.
